The States and some other crap

6 Mar

Today, I’m focusing on #12: Visit 5 states I’ve never been to before. No, I’m not going on a road trip to five more states, but, I thought I should determine which states I have actually been to, before I decide which five I would like to visit. Additionally, driving through states does not count. Unless I have actually spent a night in the state, then I will not count it as having been visited.States I have Visited

1. Virginia — I was born there, call it home, and have lived there for the majority of my life. For this reason, I’ve been all over the state – Fairfax, Richmond, Williamsburg, Roanoke, and all the way down to Marion. Been there, done that.

2. Ohio — I lived in Ohio for about eight years of my life and it’s still some place that I consider home, even though I haven’t been there in about six years.

3. West Virginia — Lived there briefly in the late 80s, and, while I know this doesn’t count, I’ve driven through it at least 100 times. It’s a beautiful state and there’s something about the mountains that is home to me.

4. South Carolina — I went to Basic Training at Fort Jackson in SC, but I’ve also visited Myrtle Beach on numerous occasions, most recently in 2003.

5. Maryland — I went to AIT in MD, visited Baltimore on numerous occasions and accidentally crossed water and ended up lost in MD too many times to count.

6. Massachusetts — Visited Salem in August 2004. Loved it.

7. Pennsylvania — Visited Philly in August 2004.

8. Vermont — Visited Vermont in August 2004.

9. New York — I’ve been to NY City twice, once in 2003 and again in 2004. I’ve also visited up-state NY with my mother somewhere around the age of 14.

10. North Carolina — I’ve been to the Outer Banks, more than once, but, most recently, for Jenn’s 21st in 2005. I also once dated a boy who lived in Durham, and visited him a few times. I’ve also been to Asheville to visit Lyric a few times and that is one beautiful place!

11. Texas — Been to the Houston area twice, although the last time I went I think I was 13.

12. Florida — I’ve been to Florida at least five times, most recently in July 2006.

13. Indiana — Camp Atterbury. Regardless, Indianapolis is a fun city.

14. Hawaii — I went to Hawaii, to include the islands of Maui, Hawaii, Kauai, and Oahu in July 2005 for a family trip. It’s one of the most beautiful places I’ve ever been.

15. Delaware — I visited Rehoboth Beach several years ago, around the age of 15.

Okay, there’s several more states that I’ve driven through, but they don’t count. Now I just need to think about where I want to go. I think I need to move further west – I want to see California, and Nevada, and Arizona.

On unrelated notes, I found neat things again today.

1. The World According to America — It’s amusing, to say the least.

2. Hillman Wonders of the World — Cool site with the top 100 and top 1000 wonders of the world. Also includes breakdowns my country. What this taught me, is that I need to get out and see more.

In closing, I would like to add that my battle buddy broke my truck. I’m bitter and sad for my truck. I want it back.
